Look at what else is going on to determine what the purr means. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your cat\u2019s tail is up and they are rubbing against you, they are probably happy. Adult cats may remember this from when they were young. If they do, they will likely trill to you when they are happy, and will trill to other cats in the household. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Yowling<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cats will yowl when they get older, if they are in heat, and of course if they are distressed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meowing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Domestic cats use meows to communicate with their rather dense human housemates. You will know if your cats meow indicates a greeting, annoyance, or that they need something. Cats don&#8217;t often meow to each other but baby cats will meow at mom as a distress call. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Growling, hissing, and spitting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch out! This is either a scared or angry cat.
